If you imagine M. John Harrison’s Viriconium novels or Gene Wolfe’s New Sun series written by Gabrielle Wittkop, you might get some inkling of the contents of this book, though it ultimately stands alone. Lush, audacious, erratic, and endlessly enticing, the text consists of three consecutive fragments of the life of a barbarian, somehow managing, against all odds, to hit a spot that’s impossible to reach by more conventional means.
